Health & Safety Made Simple book cover – a step-by-step guide to implementing a Health & Safety system for small business owners and managers.

Behind on Health & Safety? Start Here — Without the Judgement

“I know I should have this in place by now.”

It's something we hear from small business owners far more often than you might think.

The risk assessments aren't finished. Policies are missing. Training records haven't been kept properly. Documents have been downloaded but nobody is quite sure what to do with them.

And underneath all of that is often something else:

Embarrassment.

Business owners can feel they should already know what they need. Some are reluctant to ask for help because they're worried about being judged for what isn't in place.

At ISOPOINT, we don't believe Health & Safety should work like that.

There is no shame in starting.

If your system isn't where it needs to be, the important question isn't:

“Why haven't you done this?”

It's:

“Where are you now, and what do you need to do next?”

And that question is one of the reasons we created Health & Safety Made Simple.

The Problem Wasn't That Business Owners Didn't Care

What we kept seeing was not a lack of concern about Health & Safety.

Quite the opposite.

Small business owners wanted to protect their employees. They wanted to comply with their responsibilities. They wanted to do things properly.

They simply didn't know where to start.

Search for Health & Safety information and suddenly you're faced with legislation, risk assessments, policies, procedures, registers, inspections, training, incident reporting, emergency planning and pages of technical terminology.

For someone also trying to run a business, manage employees, serve customers and pay the bills, it can become overwhelming very quickly.

And then there's cost.

A small business may need Health & Safety support without having the budget for a full-time Health & Safety professional or ongoing consultancy.

So we began asking a different question:

What if we could show small business owners how to do much of it themselves?

Making Health & Safety for Small Businesses Easier to Manage

That question became the starting point for Health & Safety Made Simple.

We didn't want to write another book that simply explained Health & Safety.

We wanted to create a plan.

Something a business owner could open and follow:

Start here. Do this first. Then do this. Now move to the next step.

The result was Health & Safety Made Simple — A Step-by-Step Implementation Guide for Small Businesses.

We designed the book to help small business owners turn Health & Safety requirements into practical action. Step by step, it guides you through identifying workplace hazards, completing risk assessments using a risk matrix, developing Health & Safety policies and procedures, training and communicating with employees, preparing for emergencies, managing incidents and corrective actions, and maintaining and improving your Health & Safety system over time.

But there was another important part.

We didn't want someone to buy the book and then feel alone when they had a question.

That's why the guide includes access to our free quarterly Q&A support.

Sometimes all you need is the opportunity to ask:

“I've reached this part. Am I doing it correctly?”

So, Who Is Behind the Book?

ISOPOINT brings together something we think is particularly important: technical Health & Safety knowledge and the ability to teach it in plain language.

Between us, our professional backgrounds and qualifications span Health & Safety management, Masters in Health and Safety, NEBOSH, law, ISO management systems, lead auditing, risk assessment, compliance, SHEQ and adult education.

That last part matters.

Because knowing Health & Safety is one thing.

Being able to explain it so that another person understands what to do is something entirely different.

Our aim wasn't to impress readers with technical terminology.

We wanted someone to finish a section of the book and think:

“Okay. I understand this. I know what I need to do next.”

You Don't Have to Do Everything Today

A Health & Safety system isn't built in an afternoon.

Start with what you have.

Identify what's missing.

Deal with the important risks first.

Build your system step by step.

And when something requires specialist expertise, get the appropriate professional support.

There is no judgement about where you're starting from.

What matters is that you've decided to start.

That's the philosophy behind ISOPOINT.

And that's why we wrote Health & Safety Made Simple.

Start where you are. Build it step by step.

You have to do it. Now you can.
